Parthena Owens has been with the OKC PHIL since its inaugural year and, in addition to the flute, has also played the piccolo. Owens has been playing the flute since just before the fourth grade and has her Aunt Parthena to thank, since she played as well. However, Owens’ mother was her greatest push to being a musician.
In addition to the OKC PHIL, Owens has also played with the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, Lyric Theatre Orchestra, Sinfonia of Mid-America, and the American Music Festival Orchestra. However, Owens enjoys every new season at the OKC PHIL because she loves the anticipation of learning a new piece.
Owens has a bachelor of Music from Oklahoma City University and a masters in Flute Performance from Northwestern University. In addition to her position with the orchestra, she’s also an adjunct professor of flute at Oklahoma City University, a private flute instructor, flutist with the Brightmusic Chamber Music Series, and a flutist with the group “Go for Baroque.”
Owens’ name is very special to her as she is a 7th generation “Parthena.” She is also married to OKC PHIL percussionist Roger Owens with whom they have one son and all three are part of the Red Sox Baseball Nation.
