Densi Rushing—First Violin—Assistant Concertmaster

Densi Rushing began her career as an extra player for the Oklahoma Symphony Orchestra in 1980. She then transitioned to the OKC PHIL at its inception. Rushing began playing the violin at 7 years of age primarily because her older sister played and she couldn’t stand to see her sister doing something she was unable to do.

She says that her father, who also played the violin, has been one of her greatest musical influences and has a three-way tie between Brahms, Prokofiev, and Mozart for title of her favorite composer.

In addition to the OKC PHIL, Rushing has also graced the chairs of the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque, the Lawton Philharmonic, the Enid Philharmonic, the Wichita Grand Opera, the Tulsa Philharmonic, Fort Smith Symphony and the Tonkawa Gala Orchestra.  However, she loves coming back each season to make great music with the wonderful members of the OKC PHIL.

Rushing, a former public school orchestra director, is a freelance musician with degrees in Music Performance and Music Education & is the Professor of Violin at Southern Nazarene University. Additionally, she is the musical contractor for Lyric Theater, the Tonkawa Gala & many other events.

Rushing also shows and breeds Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Her AKC Champion dogs hold titles in conformation, lure coursing, rally obedience, therapy dog, and herding. If there’s a dog show in which she can participate, she’s there. She also loves gardening and home remodeling, however, her favorite thing to do is travel with her husband and son.
